I'm a terrible baker, I honestly ruin anything I attempt to bake. I love these no-bake chia and cacao protein ball recipes but I've even managed to stuff them up on occasions. 🤨😆 I've tried making protein balls from scratch but ruined the blades of our nutri-bullet trying to blend up almonds 🤦‍♀️I'm seriously that bad in the kitchen.

Protein Balls make for a quick, easy, healthy snack and taste amazing with a few drop of doTERRA's Peppermint essential oil. You can even convince a toddler that they are chocolate 😄

doTERRA essentials oils are the highest quality 100% pure plant extracts, which makes them safe natural food flavouring. The range includes herbs and spices like Oregano, Rosemary, Thyme, Cinnamon, Basil and Coriander to name a few. I'm definitely not a masterchef but I know a lot of people do love cooking with their doTERRA essential oils. But take my word for it - a little goes a long way!

I've always been drawn to Cedarwood, it's just always jumped out to me. I actually received it as a free enrolment incentive product when I got started with my first order, so it kind of just came to me. It's warm, rich, woody smell reminds me of campfires and is very comforting. So when I discovered that Cedarwood is the Oil of Community, it was kind of spooky just how appropriate it was to my emotional needs.

Emotionally, Cedarwood helps to promote a sense of connectedness, feelings of belonging and feeling of social bonds. This has been all very relevant since moving from Brisbane to Sydney. We left behind our friends, family and social network - our community - in Brisbane. I've been really conscious about establishing friendships and social bonds within our Sydney community. It's been a very enlightening experience and is kind of fascinating how Cedarwood ties into it all.

This is one of my favourite blends to diffuse during the day:

  • Balance: The Oil of Grounding

  • Cedarwood: The Oil of Community

  • Bergamot: The Oil of Self Acceptance

Once you start looking into just what ingredients and chemicals are actually in a lot of our personal hygiene products - it can get a little overwhelming and a bit scary.

But the good news is it is easy to create your own natural alternatives. Its very empowering to know exactly what you are using on your body.

This is a really simple recipe for body wash:

  • 3/4 Unscented Castile Soap

  • 1/4 Aloe Vera Juice

  • 2 x tablespoons of Vitamin E Oil

  • 10 x drops of Cedarwood essential oil

  • 10 x drops of Lavender essential oil

  • 10 x drops of Tea Tree essential oil

Put them all into a glass soap dispenser and shake to combine.

You can customise this recipe with any of the essentials oils that work best to support skim. Lavender and Tea Tree have been my go to oils for skin, but Cedarwood also has properties that promote healthy skin.

If you have any questions about how to get started with the doTERRA DIY low-tox lifestyle, please don't hesitate to get in touch. I'd love to share my knowledge and point you in the right direction.

A great resource to refer to when using essential oils to support your overall health and wellness is the book MODERN ESSENTIALS. It's basically an encyclopedia listing all way to apply essential oils to support various areas of concern. It also come an a handy app format.

This is a blend I created after referring to Modern Essentials when I woke up with some tension in my neck and head. I was very surprised at how effective it was and now reach for this blend straight away when the same symptoms arise.

In a 5ml Roller:
5 drops of Peppermint
5 drops of Eucalyptus
5 drops of Frankincense
Topped up with Fractionated Coconut Oil

Photo 18-8-18, 8 55 17 pm.png

doTERRA's Ice Blue - Athletic blend make for the perfect massage oil.

Quite often I've combined a few drops of Ice Blue with fractionated coconut oil and massaged it into Braino's shoulders and back after a big week at work.

It's great for supporting aches and tension. And who doesn't love a back massage!

Since I had Farley, I've stopped wearing perfume. Baby-wearing as been a big part of motherhood for me, I just love having my babies close in slings, wraps and the ergo carrier. And it just didn't feel right to have them so close to the harsh fragrances of perfume. Don't get me wrong, I still wear deodorant 😆 but I've really phased out all perfumes.

So I was really excited to discover doTERRA's beautiful Touch rollers that have been pre-diluted with blends of essential oils and fractionated coconut oil so you can apply them topically to your skin.

The blends have a variety of gorgeous scents and have also been created with emotional support in mind. The Emotional Aromatherapy Touch Kit includes blend likes Console, Forgive, Peace, Cheer, Motivate and Passion.

I particularly love this blend HOPE; a blend of Frankinscene, Bergamot, Ylang Ylang and Vanilla Bean Absolute. This blend is extra special as doTERRA have pledged the full sale price of each bottle of Hope to the charity Operation Underground Railroad which works toward rescuing and rehabilitating children from sex trafficking. A very heavy topic to think about but such an incredible cause to support.

This is one of the main reasons I love doTERRA as a company. They give back to so many amazing charities through their Healing Hand Foundation.

One bottle of HOPE is an incredible way to support yourself naturally and support an incredible important cause.

For someone who was a little skeptical at first, Braino has grown to appreciate these oils!

He’s not the biggest fan of good old Lavender so I created this particular blend to diffuse at night. The woody, earthy aromas of Cedarwood and Vetiver seemed suitably masculine while Bergamot is a delicious soft citrus scent. When it comes to relaxation, you can’t go past Vetiver, while Cedarwood and Bergamot area also very calming and soothing to the senses.

Braino was actually pretty surprised at how quickly he drifted off to sleep with this diffusing in the room and now, almost obsessively, makes sure the diffuser is running each night.

I've you've been thinking of getting doTERRA into your life, I'd love to show you the most cost effective way to grow your collection.

This is another take on my morning diffuser blend.

I absolutely love Balance - it’s a must have in our household, I’ll mix it with anything! Citrus oils make the perfect combo to start the day with as they are very energising and uplifting. Citrus Bliss is doTERRAs Invigorating Blend and it smells delicious!

Another low - tox alternative for our little ones; this chest rub is the perfect respiratory support.

It’s just organic coconut oil with 10 drops of doTERRA’s Easy Air Blend. I rub this on the girls chest at night when they need a little help with deep, clear breathing. So gentle, natural and easy to make!

I’ve now gotten into the habit of turning the diffuser on as part of my morning routine. I find its a nice way to check in with myself and set my intentions for the day. Now that I have a growing collection of oils, I like to see which oils I intuitively gravitate towards. If you like a little bit of spirituality, each oil is considered to serve and support a different aspect of our emotion wellbeing, so it’s a fascinating way to tune into your own emotions. I’ve never really been that into things like tarot cards, crystals or astrology (yet 😆) but I do love investigating the connection between the oils and my emotional needs.

For example, this is a blend that I kind of selected at random based on what jumped out at me and what I know to smell appealing.

Grapefruit is the Oil of Honoring the Body and promotes respect for the body, meeting physical needs and body-acceptance.

Patchouli is the Oil of Physicality and incorporates the positive properties of confidence, body connection and acceptance.

Balance - the Grounding Blend is the oil of Grounding and is associated with the positive aspects of being connected and inner strength.

I must have been needing a bit of a boost in the ‘self love’ department.

A great resource for diving deep into the connection between emotions and essential oils is the book - Emotions and Essential Oils. It's truly fascinating stuff.

I have gone a little crazy with replacing a lot of our cleaning and hygiene products around the house, but it’s so easy, once I started I couldn’t stop! Plus it's much better for the environment and saves a bit off the household budget too.

For this foaming hand wash, you’ll need:

  • an amber glass bottle with pump action nozzle

  • fill 1 / 3 with unscented castile soap

  • fill the rest with water

  • 10 x drops of On Guard essential oil

  • 5 x drops of Lemon essential oil

Darker glass bottles are much better for essential oils as they keep out sunlight which will deteriorate the aromatic and therapeutic properties of your oils. I keep this one on the window sill so the dark glass is a must!

Also, essential oils can corrode plastics so glass is always the best option.

Let talk about Frankincense for a bit here… this oil is historically one of the most precious oils and has so many benefits - it’s incredible. It’s one of the oils that is superb for your skin; it’s revitalising and can help reduce the appearance of imperfections. When used aromatically, it promotes feelings of peace and relaxation.

I now use this Frankincense Touch roller around my eyes each night as a natural toner (Mum life have got me like…👵 )

And I often reach for Frankincense when I’m feeling a little crazy - a few deep breaths of Frankincense from the bottle does the trick.

This is another brilliant low-tox baby product replacement. They are so easy to make, cheaper than most store bought wipes and super gentle on your little ones skin.

I’ve always been a cloth nappy enthusiasts but Farley often developed scary looking nappy rashes. It was hard to pint point exactly what caused the flare ups but by the time she was 12 months I converted to disposable nappies. However, for Hallie, I’ve gone back to cloth nappies and have also been using the handmade baby wipes and her nappy area as been rash free!

I combine about 400ml of cooled, boiled water with 2 tablespoons of fractionated coconut oil and 2 drops of Lavender Essential Oil and 3 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil.
I sit a roll of paper towel in the mixture and let it absorb.
Once the paper towel has absorbed everything, I remove the cardboard role out of the middle - once it’s soggy it slides right out.
I then pull out the end of the paper towel from the middle of the roll.
And then squash it into this tall glass jar
(you can use any container that is convenient to you, I just found this one at the back of the cupboard, it was roughly the same size as a paper towel and it’s worked ever since)

Even if you don’t have babies - these wipes are heaven when you’ve got a cold and are continuously blowing and wiping your nose. Perfect with a bit of Eucalyptus Essential Oil)

Lavender and Tea Tree are very versatile and affordable oils. I now included them in my monthly Loyalty Rewards Program order which is a great way to purchase your oils and accumulate rewards points to redeem for further products. Let me know if you'd like more info!

As I’ve mentioned, our family has pretty dry skin. Braino deals with pretty extreme eczema and I have dry skin myself. Thankfully, our girls haven't had any major eczema flair ups, but their skin does need a lot of extra hydration. I’ve always been conscious of what creams I use on their skins but I was surprised by how easy it is to make your own totally natural baby lotion.

This is just organic coconut oil, melted over the stove.
Then once it cooled, but was still liquid, add 4 drops of Lavender Essential Oil and 4 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil.
Then just store in the fridge so it solidifies again.

Tea Tree contains cleansing and antibacterial properties while Lavender is very soothing and cleansing to the skin also. Both oils are very gentle - perfect for fresh bubbas and free from any synthetical nasties.

DigestZen, doTERRA’s Digestive Blend. The name says it all really.

We’ve wiped this one out a few times when we have been feeling a bit weird in the guts. I massage it into our stomachs, diluted in doTERRA’s Fractionated Coconut Oil.

It’s safe to use on our little ones, just 2 - 6 drops, topped with FCO, in a 10ml roller is all you need. While for adults you could go as much as half Digestzen / half FCO in a 10ml roller.

The few times I’ve used DigestZen, it’s brought welcome, almost instant relief.

Another wonderful natural alternative to have on hand in the home.

This combination of doTERRA’s Easy Air blend with Lavender and Frankincense essential oil is one I created to help support Farley at night when she was a bit under the weather.

Easy Air is doTERRA’s Clear Blend which promotes clear and calm breathing and supports seasonal threats.

Lavender assists in creating a calm and relaxed environment

Frankincense is another great oil for relaxation and wellness - in fact Frankincense is amazing!

There are so many ways that diffusing essential oils at night can help promote a restful night sleep. I love it. 😍

One of the things I love most about doTERRA essential oils is the ability to use them to replace a lot of store bought cleaning products and move towards a low - tox home.

Minimizing our exposure to chemicals and toxins can feel like such huge task and it’s hard to know where to start. But once I was introduced to all the way you can utilise essential oils, I felt much more empowered to make a change. And it kind of makes cleaning fun! (and that a lot coming from me! )

This is the simple Surface Cleaner I created for our kitchen benches.

1 / 2 water
1 / 2 vinegar
10 x drops of Lemon essential oil
10 x drops of Lavender essential oil
10 x drops of Tea Tree essential oil

Alternatively - On Guard and Lemon are a great combo too

If you've ever thought about switch out some of the chemical laden products around your house with natural alternatives - I can let you know how to get your essentials oils in the most cost effective way

Balance, doTERRA’s Grounding Blend is another oils I can’t live without. Anyone who has had a little toddler in their life knows that their emotions are running all over the place. And now doubt, it's the same for the your emotions too! 😆😆

Since I started diffusing Balance in the mornings and again in the afternoons, I've really noticed a difference in Farley’s ability to move through some of her big emotions. It certainly helps me too when I need a bit of emotional grounding. I love combining it with doTERRA's Wild Orange, which has a very uplifting and invigorating aroma. Both work together perfectly to balance the emotions and uplift the mood.

Photo 18-8-18, 8 59 45 2 pm.jpg

I’ve always been a night owl; I love staying up late, working on projects or even if I aim to go to bed early, I’ll still be awake late at night - my over active mind is so hard to turn off sometimes. But this doTERRA blend does an amazing job at creating a restful, relaxing environment.

Lavender Peace is doTERRA’s Restful Blend, combining Lavender Flower, Cedarwood, Ho Wood Leaf, Ylang Ylang Flower, Marjoram Leaf, Roman Chamomile Flower, Vetiver Root, Vanilla Bean Absolute, Hawaiian Sandalwood. It's tranquil, cosy aroma smells amazing!

While it’s already in Lavender Peace, I love to add Vetiver. It shuts off my mind like nothing else!

I've created a 10ml roller, containing 20 drops of Lavender Peace and 10 drops of Vetiver topped up with doTERRA’s Fractionated Coconut Oil. I apply it to the soles of my feet, temples and / or pulse points before getting into bed.

For myself, I add 4 drops of Lavender Peace and 2 drops of Vetiver in the diffuser. For Farley & Hallie, I just use 2 drops of Lavender Peace.

Do you need a bit of extra help to achieve a restful nights sleep?

One of the main reasons I started looking into doTERRA essential oils was to find a natural alternative to support Braino’s eczema. Anyone who know my husband, would know his struggles with eczema on his hands, arms and behind his knees. I created a natural eczema balm using the below recipe and he loves it! It soothes the itch and really assists in healing his skin. Of course - he always asks me to massage it in, a little bit of added love and affection never hurts too.

RECIPE (sourced from draxe.com)

½ cup raw shea butter
½ cup coconut oil
1 tablespoon of beeswax
15 drops of Lavender essential oil
15 drops of Tea Tree essential oil
15 drops of Frankincense essential oil

Using a double boiler or something similar, melt the shea butter and coconut oil until they’re combined. (a double boiler is basically when you put your ingredients in a glass jar and then sit that glass jar in a pot of water on the stove)
Add the beeswax and continue to stir.
Once everything has melted and is well blended, let it cool down.
Once it is cooled but still liquid add Lavender and Tea Tree and Frankincense essential oils.
Continue to blend.
Transfer to a glass container or jar (must be glass).
Store at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
It will stay a bit softer at room temperature which may make it easier to apply.

Lavender is very soothing for the skin and reduces the appearance of skin imperfections.
Tea Tree is renowned for its cleansing qualities and for revitalising the appearance of skin.
Frankincense also has soothing and beautifying properties that are used to help reduce the appearance of skin imperfections.
